Transforming your Throwaways

What Does it Become?

End users of material are absolutely critical to the sustainability of recycling and what those materials will become. Recycled content products create a market for recycled material.

Much of the material we recycle returns to its original form. Most of the corrugated cardboard we process is turned into linerboard, which can be reused as the liner in cardboard boxes or in such varied uses as six pack bottle holders. Recycled aluminum cans are melted down and returned to their original form. The HDPE plastic we receive ends up as industrial pipe or a synthetic lumber substitute. PET water bottles can be turned into polyester fiber, blister packs or back into bottles. Most of the PP plastic we receive ends up as flower pots.

Buying products made from post-consumer recycled content closes the loop and creates demand for recovered resources. Remember living sustainably doesn't end with recycling.  Purchasing these types of products is an important part of the equation.

This PSA was filmed on location at M&T Bank Stadium, which is home to the NFL's Baltimore Ravens. The stadium's exterior, and additional select areas throughout the venue, is constructed partially from post-consumer recycled aluminum.
